Woman and Trans Basic Bike Workshops Sunday @630pm

Hey! Gear Up! Workshops will be restarting the first week of September! Same schedule will apply – First Sunday: Intro, anatomy, flat fix. Second Sunday: Brakes and Gears. Third Sunday: Awesome advanced/rotating topic. Hope to see you there. $5 or PWYC, 6:30-8:30pm

Gear Up! workshops aim to educate and empower women & trans-identified folks to be strong, independent cyclists. By providing a safer space we hope to encourage people to access our space who may otherwise not find it accessible, and the Gear Up! Workshops target those who learn better in a more structured teaching environment.

Workshops are held at the Bike Pirates workspace and run the first 3 Sundays of each month. There is no registration required, and the price is $5 or pay-what-you-can!

Art Spin Bike Ride

Thursday August 30th
Finale Exhibition August 30th
Again this month we are partnering with our friends at Dufferin Grove Park; meet there at 6:30pm, tour begins at 7pm.

The tour wraps up at around 9pm, which is when the after-party begins. The August after-party will be at our Finale Exhibition, with a top-notch location and plenty of wonderful participating artists.
Our Annual Art Spin Exhibition this year takes place on the evening of August 30th, it marks an opening of the exhibition, as well as a wrap-up party for the summer tours.

We promise we’ve secured a really exciting location for the show, and will be working with some wonderful artists, emerging and established, to create an exhibition you won’t want to miss!

Stay tuned for more details as they come!

Bike Rave! August 17th at Christie Pits @ 8:30 PM

  • Bike rave is a D.I.Y. event that combines glow lights and synched music while riding through the streets of Toronto from dance destination to dance destination. We want to see boomboxes, costumes, glow sticks galore!

    Here is the premise:

    1) Cover your bike with lights! Be creative; you can include strobes lighting and glow sticks or what ever else lights up your bike.

    2) Download the master playlist:
    3) Mount portable speakers to your bike.
    4) Meet us at Christie pits at 8:30pm August 17th 2012.
    5) At 9:00pm everyone with a sound system will press play on their mp3 devices at the same time.
    6) We’ll ride critical mass style through the city.
    7) Tada! BIKE RAVE!!!————————–————————–If you are late we have designated meeting spots where we will be stopping to dance:

9:15 – 9:45pm – Southeast corner of Trinity Bellwoods park
10:00-10:15pm – Coronation Park at Lakeshore and Strachan
10:30-11:15pm – The playground at High Park
    11:30 – Bonfire at semi-secret location

If you get split up from the group at any point, meet us at one of these spots!

Some things to keep in mind:
*Ride safe!! Be conscious of drivers and other riders. Give other bike ravers lots of room on the roads and bike paths.

*Make sure you have lights and a bell and all that legal jazz.

*Don’t be an asshole on the road. If you find yourself in a confrontation with a driver or police officer, be friendly and smile. Bike ravers are lovers, not fighters.

*Standard disclaimer: Please note that Bike Pirates does not condone the use of illicit substances and/or alcohol while riding a bike.

    THINGS TO BRING:
    *Lights, soundsystem, party attitude

*Spare tubes and patch kit in case of flats

    *Lots of water

    *Snacks

    *All your friends
