Alley Ride Friday May 17th 3rd Friday Event

A few years ago we hosted an alley ride during the summer and it was met with enthusiasm and excitement. We’ve decided to do it again and we need your help!

Leave a reply here or send us a message (to our info@ account) telling us your favourite alley, laneway, secret passage or hidden trail in downtown Toronto. The only caveat being that it should be passable by bike…or, well, bikes! From the suggestions we get and our own devious plotting and recon missions, we will put together a route.

This will be a fun, adventurous, meandering group ride to discover new routes and hidden treasures off our the main streets of Toronto. Join us with your bike, a pal, and properly inflated tires – there`s a good chance someone will get a flat on an alley ride. Meet up at Bike Pirates at 6:30pm, ready to roll at 7pm. Rides usually last 1-2 hours, and may end with socializing if the weather is good.

Time for our 4th annual BMEF Mayday fundraiser!
Each year has gotten bigger and better. Out of towners start planning now! This weekend will be AWESOME!!
Last year we raised over $4000….lets make this year even more successful!

Follow us on Twitter! @MayDayAlleyCat

The BMEF is a completely community funded and run non profit so each year we gather together to raise money to help support our fellow messengers when they get injured while on the job.

The Bicycle Messenger Emergency fund is a non profit organization that provides emergency compensation to bicycle messengers who are hurt on the job. Currently the BMEF allocates a $300 ( Euro, Can, Lbs, USD etc..)emergency cheque to help messengers anywhere in the world during the first week of injury. This provides a boost, to both the financial and the mental/emotional state of the injured messenger. The goal is to help the injured cope and recover.

We Love Allies Party Friday Jan 23rd 7pm

ast November, the Sundays Collective at Bike Pirates celebrated a third anniversary of weekly women and trans hours. We see this as a huge success that we take immense pride in. We’re NOT PERFECT but WE’RE WORKING ON IT!

WE BUILT THIS…AND WE HAD HELP. Our struggle is supported by the rest of the community, in and outside Bike Pirates, who have helped make this program strong. We are filled with joy and gratitude towards our allies! So we want to celebrate. Party time!!!!!!

FRIDAY, JANUARY 25…7PM @ BIKE PIRATES
Snacks! Games! Photo booth! Awesome music! Loot bags! Cookie decorating!
ALL ARE INVITED.
This is a substance-free event (alcohol, drugs, etc)

We believe that allies are not “finished products”…allies are people who are “working on it”. This party is for everyone; we’ll also be distributing resources on how to be an ally, from our point of view.

WHAT IS AN ALLY?

Allies are people who are committed to ending oppression and who acknowledge their own privilege. They try to learn about oppression by doing their own research and also by supporting and listening to people who are members of oppressed groups. They examine and challenge their own stereotypes.

WHAT IS AN ALLY OF THE SUNDAYS COLLECTIVE AT BIKE PIRATES?

A Sundays Ally is someone who does not identify as a woman or transperson and is supportive of the program. They acknowledge that Sundays are led by and for women and trans people and they do not try to interfere. They never show up on Sundays and ask for suggestions. They let their women and trans friends know about Sundays at Bike Pirates. They challenge offensive comments when they hear them. They put in time and energy into learning how to be a better ally.
