Dykes on Bicycles, July 2 2016

dicylceIt’s time to ride with pride! The Dyke March is happening again and Dykes on Bicycles is back to bring a strong visibility of the one, two and three-and-more-wheeled queers of our city.

The word ‘Dicyles’ is a term that includes, but is not limited to road bikers, mountain bikers, commuters, racers, cruisers, hybrids, tri-cyclist, cargo bikers, scooters, e-bikes, polo bikers, tourers, tandemers and tall bikers, BMXers, 3 speeders, single speeders, fixies, couriers and cyclo-crossers and all folks on wheels!

We are an inclusive contingent of the Dyke March. If you feel you belong on your bike, please ride with us. We will ride critical mass style in the Dyke March on Saturday July 2nd during Pride 2016. Are you from out of town? Hop on a BikeShare bike or borrow one from a pal.

Leap Year FRAME SALE!

IMG_20140728_231039We have more than a few well-established rules here at Bike Pirates, one of which is we do not sell bikes or frames AS IS. This is for a few reasons, not the least of which is ensuring that bikes leaving Pirates are safe, rideable and going to good use.

However, every once in a while a rule must be broken!

During our renos we determined we had far too many BARE BICYCLE FRAMES (and carcasses) than we could possibly hope to build up for sale, even if we had weekly bike builds and a legion of enthusiastic, over-caffeinated wrenchers.

SO WE ARE HAVING A FRAME SALE!!

Starting February 6 at noon frames will be available for sale throughout the month of February.
Bike Pirates normally has a policy of not allowing frames to leave the shop without it being complete and safe, so this is another exception that will be available to you.

This is a cash and carry sale on a first come first serve basis.

Bike Pirates will also not hold any frames for anybody for whatever reason. Come early for best selection.
Frames will be priced on a PWYC basis for most frames, and the higher end ones will be available for up to $20. Frames will be available as frames only and most will be with a fork and headset.
Come by and get your new project started!!
There’s one catch: If you choose to work on your bike at Pirates (which we would love to help you with), we will not be able to accommodate it in our project room if you do not finish. Each time you visit the shop the bike/frame will need to go home with you.

Holidays and 2016 Renos!

We hope that by now everyone is aware that we don’t observe holidays here at Bike Pirates the way that most businesses do. Since we are run by a collective of volunteers and provide a unique service to our community, we tend to be open *ALL OF OUR REGULAR SCHEDULED HOURS* throughout holidays etc. unless volunteers aren’t available.

Generally we close more due to other commitments or extreme weather than because of a holiday!

So come on down, we’ll be observing our regular hours all this week, including new year’s eve.

THE SHOP WILL BE CLOSED FROM JANUARY 8TH TO 17TH  for our annual renovations/shop organizing. If you are interested in coming by and lending a hand we will be addressing issues both large and small, simple and mechanical, during this period.

Want to help rewire our stereo system? Sort parts? paint a wall? reorganize our basement or help install new lighting? We’ll try to keep our FACEBOOK PAGE updated with our plans and what our volunteers will be in the space during renovation week. More hands will mean more tasks get covered!

**Please refrain from asking for bicycle help during this time. It is important for us to be able to focus on improving and organizing the shop so we can help everyone more efficiently in the coming year**
